Bad PR?

Is there really such a thing as bad press? Recently Oprah took some heat for refusing to have Vice President nominee Sara Palin on her show. As a result of this statement there have been boycotts of her show and magazine. The sad thing with all of this is that Oprah’s ratings and sales have gone up since the announcement. Like the old adage goes “there’s no such thing as bad press.” I feel that she is wrong by not allowing Miss Palin on her show because she is supposed to be a supporter of women and women’s independence. Yet, she refuses to have on her show a woman who could potentially be the first woman Vice President in the history of the United States. Oprah needs to bite the bullet and give her viewers what they want and that is a Sara Palin interview.

I agree with the adage you used. Press is press, no matter the angle on it. I think a lot of times people in positions of power (and even though I hate to admit it, Oprah IS in a position of power over people) tend to forget that they were once on the other side of the fence. Before Oprah was a big shot media icon, she was just another woman with ideals and thoughts about changing the world. I'm sure she would've appreciated having the same opportunity Sarah Palin is trying to get by coming on a popular talk show. I'm sure Oprah's PR professionals tend to roll their eyes behind her back sometimes at the decisions she makes...

Unfortunately, I couldnt disagree more. I think Oprah may have done Sarah Palin a favor by not allowing her on the show. The more I hear from Sarah Palin's mouth, the more disturbed I become at the thought of this woman being one heart beat (from perhaps the oldest president to ever be elected) away from leading the free world.

I have no problem electing a female vice president or even president for that matter, but her more than suspect governing record and narrow minded beliefs about creationism and sex education for children have me dumbfounded.

Now I'm not usually one to engage in an ecumenical debate, or even question others beliefs, but I think Oprah is doing her a HUGE favor. The less this woman is on television the better chance she has to be elected. I mean, how many people out there truly feel that Sarah Palin is going to bring positive change to the White House when she still believes that Jesus was walking around with dinosaurs some 2 to 3 thousand years ago? Has she never heard of something called science?

To make things clear, I'm not anti-republican, just anti-ignorance. In fact, I was almost 100% going to vote for John McCain because of his strong military and senatorial background, but alas Sarah Palin has persuaded me otherwise.

To sum up my rant, all press is not always good press, otherwise the republicans would have 1 more vote, which I can confidently say they have lost.
