What is Homecoming?/week 7/ONU
What is Homecoming? I went to an all boys Catholic high school and Homecoming did not exist. What is the point? The past three years all I have seen are locals coming in and riding rides and mooching off the proverbial teet. I love the locals but I do not really feel that they like ONU that much. We have a football game that is kind of cool but besides that we have no Homecoming dance or concert. I just feel that it is incredibly unneccesary. Please if I am missing something tell me because truthfully I do not see the point. I have heard groups say that alumni come back or something along those lines. So Homecoming is a place to let the community mooch and for the school to make money off of alumni? I say the school makes Homecoming something special for everyone, not just the fraternities or the community. We pay a crap load of money to go to this wonderful school lets throw a little money our way.

Couldn't agree with you more. We need a dance or something. Homecoming was awesome at my high school. We had a week full of festivities, then a homecoming pep rally, football game and top it off, an awesome dance. So, yes I agree!
Brandon, you make a great point. I only like homecoming because we do a lot within Delta Zeta. We have an alumni lunch and get to see sisters who graduated years ago. Other than that, I feel like homecoming is an excuse for ONU to make a profit and show-off what they have spent student's tuition on, such as the Inn. I think homecoming definitely needs a dance or something. Even if it was out on the tundra, it would give the student body something new to do aside from just going to the game and riding on floats. And I know how much you want a sweet concert, which I also agree would really help students to feel involved. Maybe we should talk to SPC or something :)
I think the Homecoming Committee really tried to make this week fun. But I'm not positive they succeeded. There were the different events every night...trivia, a speaker, bingo/poker, and the band tonight. There really weren't a ton of people at these weekly events. Granted, everyone has class and work so that plays a big part in participation. This weekend could use something more though. My friends from other schools were surprised that we didn't at least have a dance, because they all do. I'm not sure I would go to a dance even if we did have it, but at least the option would be there. I am excited for the saturday evening fireworks though!
Beginning with my administration and for every year since, the Black Student Union has hosted a Homecoming Dance...they did it last night too...open to the public.Next Year, You should go.
