Rainier For President/Week 8/PR
Recent speculations have been made about Sarah Palin's wardrobe costs. Reports say that the campaign has spent $150,000 dollars on her clothes in September alone, along with thousands of other dollars spent on her hair and make up. This might be one of the most sexist things I have ever seen. Being a PR major a practitioners job is supposed to highlight the positive attributes in the client. I see no difference in this situation. This is money that has been donated to the campaign to help Senator McCain and Governor Palin win. It should not matter what they are spending it on if it is helping the cause. Governor Palin I am sure was not the one who said let me go out and drop a hundred and fifty grand on clothes. She does what the highly paid advisors think are best. If it takes that much money to make the American people perceive her as a potential Vice President, so be it. I do wonder though, if Barack Obama spent ten grand on a suit would there be this much commotion. By the way I have no bias in either side of the campaign I'm going to be voting for myself lol. RAINIER FOR PRESIDENT!!!!

Great point. I think anyone who is running for an official office spends tons of money on their clothing. It sounds terrible, but appearance definitely plays a role. I do feel there is some sexism since they have only pointed the finger at Palin and she is the only woman. After being at conference, I realized how easy it is for guys to dress up. Guys can wear the same pants with a different button up, and no one will notice. Yet with girls, it is completely different.
Along the same lines, Bob Lutz at conference spoke about how twisted politics are. Have you seen the commercial where it points out that McCain has voted with Bush over 90 % of the time. Lutz pointed out that ALL of congress votes with the president that percentage of the time. It is so easy for politics to twist the truth, with everything from clothing costs to voting.
I am voting Rainier for president too :)
I think the informed public understands the money was donated for the campaign to use in any way it needed for the ticket to win.
BUT, I think when voters put that money in perspective with today's economic troubles people get angry.
That's money people could use and the campaign spent it on cotton and spandex! I understand why she needed the clothes. She's on a national pedestal and has to look the part. I also understand people who are losing or have lost everything are beyond pissed when they hear that price tag.
Her advisors should have seen the backlash coming and should have prepared for it better if they’re so upset that the media and voting public are targeting her. Sorry. Comes with the territory I suppose.
And no, I don’t think this is sexist…the story is no different than Edwards’ some-odd-hundred dollar haircut that made news for weeks. It’s called being in the limelight. Again, sorry.
